Recreation Cheerleading defined

Teams that cheer as a team for any non-school sponsored, sports team during the fall or winter season and are attached to a civic-recognized, recreational association.


Recreational Organizations Defined:
  • Non-profit organization
  • Volunteer coaches
  • Charge no fee other than team registration and competition fees, or fees to cover camps, events, or travel
  • Can provide proof of identity by submitting a certificate naming their township and organization as insured party

 Independent Organizations
  • Non-profit organization
  • Volunteer coaches
  • Do not cheer for a sport
  • Teams that make no cuts
  • Charge no fee other than registration fees and competition fees, or fees to cover camps, events, or travel.
  • Can provide proof of identity by submitting a certificate naming their township and organization as insured party.

Team Guidelines

 

Team membership:   Members must be currently enrolled in a school district not to exceed grade 12. Please see 10% rule below.

 

Competition team size: Teams in competition may be divided by Small, Medium, and Large, according to team size and numbers of entries at each event.

 

10% performance rule: A team may have up to 10% of its members who are older than the division standard because of grade/age/ability exceptions. This exception must be noted on any entry or registration forms. See Team Members above.

Combined teams:   A team may be combined with another team at one division/ or level higher in age/ability. For example, Youth and Jr. Prep, Jr. Prep and Junior.

 

Double-teaming: Cheerleaders are not permitted to cheer on more than one recreation team. Additional acceptable team membership would include: Elementary, Jr. High, or High School teams. Cheerleaders are permitted to compete in stunt groups or as individuals without penalty.

 

Birthday cut-off date: Cheerleaders cannot be older than the age standards for their divisions before October 1 of each season.
